The distance of the short hurdle sprint race varies from 80m to 110m, depending on age and gender. The height of the hurdle and the distance between hurdles also varies.
The 110m hurdles have been in the Olympics since 1896 and the 100m hurdles for women since 1972.
Women start with 100m, a hurdle height of 0.84m and 8.5m between hurdles. From aged 40, the women race 80m. The hurdle height is dropped to 0.762m at age 40 and then to 0.686m at age 60. The gap between hurdles is reduced to 8m at age 40 and 7m from age 50.
Men start with 110m, a hurdle height of 0.991m and 9.14m between hurdles. From aged 50, the distance is reduced to 100m and then again to 80m from age 70. The hurdle height is dropped to 0.914m at age 50, 0.84m at age 60, 0.762m at age 70 and then to 0.686m at age 80. The gap between hurdles is reduced to 8.5m at age 50, 8m at age 60 and 7m from age 70.
At the World Masters Indoor Champs, there is a short hurdles variant where every age group runs 60m.
To be valid for a record, a time must be run with a wind reading of +2.0 or less.

Where it is not readily evident that a historical hand timed record or electronic time is faster, both will be listed.
