The 1500m track walk is not actually a championship event but is usually put on as part of the Centre Champs to provide an additional event for walkers.
The event has never appeared at the Olympics, where the 3000m and 3500m made appearances in 1920 and 1908. A 10000m walk was held sporadically until 1924. After that all walking events were held out of stadia, on road.
As a Wellington-specific event distance, only Centre records were maintained until the event was added to the NZMA Champs in 2022; as such, national records are only from 2022 onwards.
