Wellington Masters
Hammer |
| The
hammer throw has its formal origins in the Scottish Highland
games. It is one of the last events to recognise women at
the Olympic level, having been contested since 1900 for men
but not until 2000 for women.
The weight of the hammer varies by age and
gender. Men start with 7.26kg. They drop to 6kg at age 50,
5kg at age 60, 4kg at age 70 and 3kg at age 80. Women start
with 4kg, drop to 3kg at age 50 and 2kg at age 75.
