                    World
Masters Athletics introduced a world championship for
indoor events from 2004, to be held every two years. With
the traditional outdoor championships migrating to even
numbered years, the indoor version have gone to odd numbered
                    years. The indoor track is
smaller than its outdoor cousin. Laps are 200m long and the
number of lanes is typically six. It is not uncommon for the
track to be banked at the turns.
The events that must be contested as
                    part of the indoor champs are 60m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m
and 3000m for runners. Hurdlers contest a short hurdle
competition over 60m and walkers have a 3000m track walk.
Only one relay competition takes place: a 4x200m. The
jumpers have a full programme available (high, long, triple
jumps and pole vault). The throwers have the shot put and
weight throw. An indoor variant of the pentathlon is the
                    sole combined events competition.
                    Championship organisers can choose to
add a number of outdoor events to the championship. Walkers
have a 10km road walk, while throwers can complete their
range of events with the hammer, discus and javelin. For
runners, there is an 8km cross country and a half marathon.
At the 2016 General Assembly, a motion
was passed to change the event programme after the 2017
                    Championships:
                      - the half marathon event will be
                      replaced by a 10km road race;

                      - a 5km walking road race event will
                      be added.
