Wellington Cross Country Champs

From 2020, the race has been held at Harcourt Park.

Prior to that it was held at Grenada North Park, which always featured very deep mud. Before that it was run at Waikanae Park and hosted by Kapiti Harriers. Each lap was 2km but there were years where the course set-up went awry and resulted in 2.2km laps (2011) and 1.85km laps (2012).

The lap route has sometimes changed drastically between years.

Athletics Wellington introduced a short course (nominally 5km) and long course (nominally 10km) championship for each grade, though the distances were shortened by about 12% for safety reasons in 2016 to avoid a part of the course deemed unsafe. The short/long course was abandoned after two years.

The race is usually held on the third Saturday in July, but was on a Sunday in 2016 and 2017.

The next event will be held 16 July 2023.
