The 400m is the shortest distance to not require a wind reading. It has been contested at the Olympics since 1896 for men and 1964 for women.

Athletes whose performances scored points for their nominated centre are bolded. Due to the memorial nature of the event, an athlete may sometimes compete as a guest for a centre, rather than being a member but it is expected that actual members will compete for their affiliated centre.
